Description

How does it work?

• A radio receiver is pulged into a PC (on the mic jack). The PC runs meteosound, a java program (either GUI or commandline), that listens to non silent sounds, and dispatch them (local directory or FTP) towrads the web server.
• Anyone can access the web server via a CGI script and listen for the last n messages

Tools

• a ftp adress where to upload the files
• a PC (linux or even windows), plug onto a radio receiver where the java code run
• a web site (on the same machine where the ftp is) to run a CGI perl script to display the data.

  Terminal version

  If you wish to run the soft from a terminal
  • make a directory for the jars (eg $HOME/metsound/jar)
  • download the following jars into the directory
    meteosound.jar
    • commons-net-1.4.1.jar
    • java-getopt-1.0.9.jar
    • meteosound.jar
  • to launch the soft you better luanch it once with the GUI to set all the parameters you wish, then run it automatically on command line, (of course adapt java & jar path according to your install):

    cd ~/meteosound/jars
    /usr/local/jre1.5.0_05/bin/java -Xmx1024M \
    -cp commons-net-1.4.1.jar:java-getopt-1.0.9.jar:meteosound.jar\

  CGI display

  a script display the data, you can have an example here. the script is configured via a property file. Both properties & source code can be displayed via the example script.

  directory cleaning

  It is more than a good idea to limit the size of the file stored on the server. In a cron tab, simply make (hourly or daily)

  License

  The soft is rather simple to install, all the code (java & perl) is covered by the LGPL license (you can do more or less what you want with it).
